5-Year-Old Boy Dies After Choking on Rambutan Seed in Terengganu

Date:

A 5-year-old boy tragically died after allegedly choking on a rambutan seed while eating the fruit.

The incident occurred yesterday at around 1:30 pm at a residence in the FELDA Neram 1 area in Kemaman, Terengganu.

Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Mohamad Raz said the police received a report that the boy was enjoying rambutans with his 6-year-old sister.

According to the report, the sister had peeled the fruit and handed it to her brother. While eating, the boy reportedly choked on the rambutan seed, which blocked his airway and prevented him from making clear sounds.

He was rushed to Kemaman Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead at around 2:50 pm.

An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was asphyxiation, and doctors found a rambutan seed lodged in the child’s throat.
