The government has approved a 50 per cent toll discount for motorists on Feb 14 and 15, in conjunction with the Chinese New Year 2026 celebrations, Works Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi announced.
He said the discount will take effect from 12.01am on Saturday, Feb 14, until 11.59pm on Sunday, Feb 15, with the move involving an estimated RM19.5 million in compensation to highway concessionaires.
The decision was endorsed at the Cabinet meeting yesterday, reflecting the government’s continued efforts to promote unity and safeguard the well-being of Malaysians across different races and religions. The toll relief is expected to ease travel expenses for those returning to their hometowns or taking holidays during the festive season, as well as ahead of the Ramadan period.
According to Alexander Nanta, the discount applies to Class 1 (private) vehicles at all toll plazas nationwide, as well as Class 2 vehicles at the Penang Bridge. However, it will not apply at toll plazas located at the country’s borders, namely the Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) and the Tanjung Kupang Toll Plaza on the Malaysia-Singapore Second Link (LINKEDUA).
He explained that the selected dates were intended to help manage traffic flow, reduce congestion and allow for better coordination of additional logistics at lay-bys and rest and service areas (R&Rs).
Motorists are advised to plan their journeys carefully, adhere to speed limits and traffic signage, and utilise the MyPLUS-TTA and TuJu Highway Navigation applications to check recommended travel times. The public is also encouraged to monitor real-time traffic updates via official channels of the Malaysian Highway Authority or contact the Traffic Management Centre for the latest information.
