A 59-year-old man allegedly stabbed his nephew to death in Tahuna, Sangihe, North Sulawesi after losing his temper when the victim verbally abused him.
According to police, the incident on Sunday began when the 40-year-old nephew, believed to be intoxicated, hurled insults at the suspect. The argument quickly escalated before turning violent.
Sangihe police criminal investigations chief Insp. First Class Stefi Sumolang said the suspect attacked the victim with a kitchen knife. The victim was rushed to Liun Kendage Hospital in Tahuna but was pronounced dead from stab wounds below the chest and at the waist.
“The suspect’s motive was that the victim had been drinking, hurling insults, humiliating and provoking him,” Stefi said.
After the attack the suspect fled but later surrendered to police. He is now in custody at Sangihe Police Headquarters for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Article 338 of Indonesia’s Criminal Code (KUHP), which carries a maximum prison sentence of 15 years if convicted.
