A 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast about 109 kilometers west of Gorontalo city on Sulawesi Island, Indonesia, early this morning, with a depth of 144.6 kilometers. Several areas in Sabah, Malaysia, also reported feeling the tremors.
According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred at 4:50:44 a.m. Malaysia time on July 24, with the epicenter located at 0.44 degrees north latitude and 122.09 degrees east longitude.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department stated that noticeable tremors were felt in several parts of Sabah’s east coast, particularly in Tawau and Lahad Datu. The department also confirmed that there is no tsunami threat from this earthquake.
There have been no reports of damage so far, and the meteorological department will continue to monitor the situation.
