7-Year-Old Boy Drowns After Chased by Wild Buffalo

Date:

A 7-year-old boy reportedly drowned in the Krawiga Abah River in Kampung Kerawang, Machang, after allegedly being chased by a herd of wild buffalo.

According to a statement issued today by Machang Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohamad Osman, authorities received a report yesterday at 4:22 pm about the boy’s possible drowning in the river.

Firefighters immediately conducted a search in the area.

“The victim was found at 5:07 pm and confirmed deceased by health ministry personnel before being handed over to the police for further action,” he said.

The boy, the second of four children in his family, was playing with three friends using slingshots when they were reportedly chased by a herd of wild buffalo.

“Tragically, the victim fell into the river about 500 meters from his home. The other three children managed to cling to riverside bushes and escape, but the boy was swept into the water and went missing,” Mohamad Osman added.
