A 73-year-old carpenter in Sarawak was fatally attacked with a wooden stick in an incident police believe was fueled by jealousy. The victim’s 63-year-old girlfriend and an alleged lover, a retired soldier, have since surrendered and been arrested for further investigation.
According to Bau district police chief Superintendent Mohd. Haide A. Rahman, the tragedy occurred on Saturday (Nov 29) at 11:39 pm at a house in Kampung Atas, Singai. The victim had gone to confront his girlfriend over a suspected affair with another man.
An argument escalated when the victim allegedly punched his girlfriend, prompting her to flee outside. She grabbed a wooden pepper pole stick and struck him on the arm. At that moment, the retired soldier arrived and attempted to break up the fight, reportedly kicking the victim. The victim collapsed to the ground, bleeding from his head.
Police were called to the scene, where they found bloodstains, a five-foot wooden stick, and a helmet. Preliminary investigations indicate the victim suffered injuries to his head, face, hands, and legs.
Authorities believe jealousy played a role in the fatal confrontation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
