A 73-year-old woman in Taipei, previously involved in a viral subway altercation over a priority seat, has caused trouble again at a convenience store and was arrested by police.
Authorities confirmed that around 10 a.m. today (October 1), the woman, surnamed Zeng, created a disturbance at a store in Datong District. Police officers arrived at the scene and took her into custody, confirming she was the same individual involved in the earlier Taipei Metro incident.
The initial conflict occurred on the afternoon of September 29. Zeng, carrying multiple bags and an umbrella, demanded that a young passenger give up a priority seat, even though other seats were available. During the encounter, she reportedly struck the passenger multiple times with her bags. The passenger eventually lost patience and kicked her across to another seat. Footage of the incident went viral and sparked widespread discussion online.
The Taipei Metro Police stated that they will review surveillance footage and entry/exit card records to confirm the identities of both parties. Because the subway altercation involved mutual fighting, it violates Article 87 of the Social Order Maintenance Act, which can result in a maximum fine of NT$18,000. Both individuals will be summoned to provide statements.
