An 8-year-old boy in Ireland has tragically passed away after what was initially thought to be a routine arm fracture, leaving his family and community in shock.
According to The Mirror, Matthew Breen, from Rathnew in County Wicklow, suffered two arm fractures at school on November 6. After being first treated at a local hospital, doctors initially assessed his injuries as not serious, and Matthew appeared to be behaving normally. He was later transferred to another hospital for surgical treatment of the fractures.
However, as he prepared for surgery, Matthew’s condition suddenly worsened. He experienced persistent vomiting and difficulty breathing. To manage his symptoms, doctors administered two doses of steroids. After the surgery, his condition improved, and he was discharged to recover at home.
Tragically, Matthew’s health deteriorated again at home. He lost his ability to breathe, prompting emergency responders to rush him to the hospital. By the time he arrived, he was in a deep coma and required life support. Despite medical efforts, Matthew passed away on November 17. The exact cause of his death has not been disclosed.
Matthew’s friends and family are mourning his sudden loss, describing him as “the sweetest little boy, loved by so many, and missed by all who knew him.”
