The driver responsible for a fatal crash that claimed the life of a police corporal along Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah, also known as Tiger Lane, in Ipoh today has been arrested.
Ipoh district police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said the suspect, an 80-year-old retired woman, was detained at the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Ipoh district police headquarters.
The elderly woman is believed to have fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning the Perodua Myvi she was driving at the crash site.
“Initial screening tests found that the suspect tested negative for drugs. The case will be investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987,” he said.
Earlier today, Corporal Mohd Hafizan Othman, 33, was killed while riding his motorcycle to work at the Kampung Rapat police station.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the accident occurred when the Perodua Myvi, which was travelling from Jalan Lengkok Harimau, attempted to make a right turn at a prohibited area, entered the opposing lane and collided with the victim’s motorcycle, which was travelling straight along the correct lane.
