“A Life For A Life”: Widow Demands Justice After Husband Killed By Alleged Drunk Driver

Date:

Grief-stricken widow Nor Nadia Abdul Majid, 32, has renewed her call for justice following the death of her husband, Amirul Hafiz Omar, 33, who was killed in a crash involving an alleged drunk driver last Sunday, stressing that she wants accountability that matches the severity of the offence, with the emotional sentiment of “a life for a life” reflecting her anguish.

Speaking outside the Magistrate’s Court today, she expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, saying the person responsible should face punishment proportionate to the loss suffered by her family. Accompanied by her lawyer, Mohd Faizi Che Abu, Nor Nadia is expected to apply to act as a watching brief in the prosecution proceedings against the accused.

Dressed in black robes, she was seen visibly distraught as she sat quietly in the public gallery during court proceedings, reflecting the emotional toll of losing her husband in sudden and violent circumstances.

The fatal incident occurred at about 11.40am when Amirul Hafiz, who was riding a motorcycle, was struck by a car driven by R Saktygaanapathy. The vehicle is believed to have been travelling at high speed along the opposite lane from Jalan Raya Barat towards Klang town.

The impact of the collision was severe, throwing Amirul Hafiz into the air before he landed on a Perodua Myvi. He was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving behind a family struggling to cope with the unexpected loss.

The case has reignited public concern over road safety, particularly involving reckless and intoxicated driving, with growing calls for stricter enforcement and harsher penalties as families continue to suffer devastating consequences.

Amirul Hafiz had been working tirelessly to support his household, holding a daytime job at a warehouse while also working as a food delivery rider at night. His sudden passing has left a significant void in the lives of his loved ones.

He is survived by his wife and three young children — Muhammad Aqif Amsyar, 9, Muhammad Afif Izz Rayqal, 7, and Nur Humaira, aged two. His remains were laid to rest at the Kampung Repoh Islamic Cemetery in Batu Kurau, Perak.
