AGC Classifies Case Linking Ismail Sabri To Rafizi Son Attack As NFA

Date:

The Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) has decided to take no further action (NFA) in a defamation case linking former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob to the attack on Pandan MP Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli’s son.

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) received a report relating to Dang Wangi Report 23401/2025 dated 18 August 2025.

“PDRM opened an investigation under Section 500 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998. The investigation papers were referred to the AGC on 23 December 2025, which subsequently classified the case as ‘No Further Action’ (NFA),” he stated in a written reply published on the Parliament website.

The statement came in response to a question from Rafizi, who sought clarification on the status of investigations by PDRM and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) concerning a report made by Ismail Sabri’s press secretary on 18 August 2025. The report alleged that a Facebook page had published defamatory posts linking Ismail Sabri to the attack on Rafizi’s child.

Saifuddin added that the AGC’s decision was based on findings from an MCMC profile analysis, which could not identify the account owner or conclusively link any individual to the Facebook account in question.

Rafizi’s 12-year-old son was attacked at a shopping mall in Putrajaya at around 2pm on 13 August 2025. CCTV footage showed two men on a motorcycle following his wife’s car prior to the incident.

Several days later, Ismail Sabri lodged police and MCMC reports against the Facebook page, which had posted two false articles and defamatory claims connecting him to the attack. Rafizi also denied any suggestion that he had linked Ismail Sabri to the assault.

On 30 January, Rafizi reportedly stated he was willing to write to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution to request the closure of the investigation into his son’s attack if no progress was made. He said he still believed the investigation was ongoing but noted that it had already been running for an extended period since August of the previous year.
