Albert Tei Summoned to Bukit Aman Over Defamation and Network Misuse Probe

Date:

Businessman Albert Tei has been summoned to Bukit Aman to assist in an investigation related to the alleged misuse of network facilities and defamation, following a viral video that contributed to corruption charges against a former senior political secretary.

Speaking to reporters before entering the federal police headquarters today, Tei confirmed the probe involves a recording featuring himself and Sofia Rini Buyong.

“I will cooperate with the investigation, but I will not back down from what I see as my struggle for justice,” he said.

Tei was accompanied by his legal team, including Zaid Malek, Mahajoth Singh, and N. Surendran. Surendran stated that the investigation is being conducted under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act (CMA) and Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation.

The investigation follows a series of public allegations Tei made against high-profile political figures and enforcement agencies.

During the press conference, Tei also questioned why the CCTV recorder from his home, seized during a previous raid, has not been returned for over two months. “I want authorities to release the footage publicly to clarify allegations surrounding a previous break-in at my residence,” he said.

He further reiterated claims regarding a purported “Sabah corruption scandal” involving mineral exploration licences and criticized the pace of investigations by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Tei also alleged that a recording of his statement to the commission, classified under the Official Secrets Act, had been leaked.
