A senior military officer holding the rank of major was fined RM1,700 by the Magistrate’s Court here today after pleading guilty to assaulting a female teacher last year.
Magistrate Dr Teoh Shu Yee handed down the sentence to 35-year-old R. Rajakogillan, who admitted to the charge as soon as it was read out in court.
According to the charge, the accused intentionally caused injury to a 44-year-old woman by punching the back of her head three times.
The incident took place at a parking area in Taman Terendak Heights, Masjid Tanah, in the Alor Gajah district at about 7.30pm on October 5, 2025.
It is understood that the altercation stemmed from a personal relationship dispute between the accused and the victim, who is a single mother of two.
The incident reportedly occurred while the pair were inside a car discussing the future of their relationship after the victim discovered the accused was involved with another woman.
An argument ensued before the accused allegedly struck the victim, who is a secondary school teacher, multiple times on the back of her head.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Ehsan Nasarudin urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence, while the accused was represented by lawyer Goh Jee Chee from the National Legal Aid Foundation.
The defence pleaded for leniency, citing that it was the accused’s first offence, his role as a military officer earning about RM5,000 monthly, and his expressed remorse, along with a promise not to repeat the act.
The defence also claimed the accused had acted in self-defence and clarified that the victim was not his partner, adding that he had recently married and was accompanied by his wife during the proceedings.
After hearing submissions from both sides, the court imposed a fine of RM1,700, with a default sentence of four months’ imprisonment if unpaid. The accused settled the fine.
