Concerns have been raised over suspected organised begging at the Taman Melawati Ramadan Bazaar in Kuala Lumpur, following social media posts showing a woman with children and a baby soliciting donations.
A local resident shared photos and called on authorities to act, highlighting the bazaar’s proximity—just 100 metres—from the Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ) convention centre. “MPAJ, please intervene. The bazaar is right behind Melawati Mall; you can’t just look the other way,” he said.
Other social media users claimed to have seen the same beggars at different locations, including Puchong Utama, where the baby appeared extremely young. Questions have also arisen online over the children’s well-being, with some observers noting that toddlers, who should be active, were frequently seen sleeping, prompting speculation that they may have been sedated.
Screenshots of prior complaints to the Department of Social Welfare (JKM) in January were also circulated, intensifying calls for authorities to investigate potential syndicate involvement. Netizens have expressed concern over the safety of the children and the ethics of using minors in such activities.
