A domestic accident in Jinan, Shandong, has sparked concern after a mother accidentally severed part of her 7-month-old daughter’s finger while opening a parcel.
According to Qilu Evening News, the mother was holding her baby, Fu Fu, while using scissors to open a delivery package when she mistakenly cut off the child’s right index finger at the first joint. The incident occurred due to a moment of carelessness during a routine household task.
The father later searched the home for the severed finger and found it in the gap of a sofa before rushing the infant to hospital for emergency treatment.
Doctors performed a complex microsurgery lasting over three hours to reattach the finger. Medical staff said the operation was highly delicate, as the child’s blood vessels were less than 0.5mm in diameter, requiring ultra-fine sutures under a microscope.
Despite the severity of the injury, doctors confirmed that the baby was discharged on Thursday (16th) and is expected to recover well, with no major long-term impact on finger function, including writing and daily activities.
The case has raised renewed reminders about the importance of caution when handling sharp objects around young children.
