Bau Police Probe Domestic Violence Case After Estranged Husband Punches Wife

Date:

Authorities in Bau, Sarawak are currently investigating a distressing domestic violence incident after a woman was reportedly punched and slapped by her estranged husband during a late-night confrontation. According to Bau District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Haide A Rahman, a formal report regarding the physical assault was lodged at 2:02 am on Thursday. The victim sustained visible injuries to her face following the altercation, which took place in the living room of a residence located within a village in the Bau district.

Initial police investigations suggest that the violence erupted at approximately 12:30 am following a heated verbal argument between the couple. The dispute is believed to have been triggered by a disagreement regarding the suspect’s alleged romantic involvement with another woman. During the height of the argument, the suspect reportedly lost control and struck the victim’s face multiple times with his fists and palms, leading to significant pain and bruising on her cheeks.

A particularly harrowing aspect of the case is that the couple’s child was reportedly present and witnessed the entire violent episode unfold. Superintendent Mohd Haide confirmed that while the pair no longer live together, the suspect has a documented history of aggressive behaviour. Investigations revealed that the man had frequently acted violently towards the victim over the past year, indicating a prolonged pattern of domestic abuse despite their estranged living arrangements.

Following the report, police have recorded statements from relevant parties to facilitate the ongoing legal process. The victim has also been provided with an official medical treatment form and was sent to Bau Hospital for a thorough physical examination to document the extent of her injuries. This medical report will serve as crucial evidence as the case moves forward through the judicial system to ensure accountability for the physical harm inflicted.

The authorities are currently investigating the matter under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, read together with Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 1994. The police have reiterated their commitment to taking firm action against perpetrators of domestic abuse to protect vulnerable individuals within the community. Further updates on the suspect’s status and the progress of the investigation are expected as the legal proceedings continue.
