A child’s birthday celebration turned tragic when a car sped off the road and plowed into a group of guests, killing one woman and injuring more than a dozen others.
The incident occurred late Saturday night in the quiet suburb of Bladensburg, just outside Washington, D.C., as friends and family gathered under a white marquee for the festivities. According to the Bladensburg Police Department and Prince George’s County Fire and EMS, a light-colored sedan suddenly veered off the street and crashed through the tent, which was reportedly crowded with families.
Among the injured were eight children, ranging in age from one to 17 years old. Emergency crews described a chaotic scene, with overturned chairs, flattened decorations, and scattered birthday balloons as they treated victims at the property.
Tragically, one woman, identified by police as Ashley Hernandez Gutierrez of Washington, D.C., died from her injuries. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the driver’s speed and intent.
