Body of Vessel Crew Member Discovered Near Tanjung Bungah

Date:

The body of an Indonesian crew member who went missing after reportedly falling from a barge at Penang Port was discovered yesterday near Pulau Keramat, Tanjung Bungah.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said the victim, identified as 46-year-old Abdul Khodir, was found at around 4.45pm by local fishermen.

“The JBPM team retrieved the body and handed it over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.

Authorities later confirmed that the deceased was the same crew member reported missing after falling overboard from the Cassandra 2702 vessel.

Media reports earlier stated that JBPM had received a request for assistance from police at 3.55pm on Saturday to search for the victim, who was believed to have fallen into the sea between 10pm and 2am the previous night.
