Businessman Denies Allegation of Cheating Woman of RM500,000 in Floor Coating Venture

A businessman bearing the title “Datuk” pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court today to a charge of cheating a woman of RM500,000 in 2018.

The accused, 38-year-old Ridzuan Abdullah, was alleged to have dishonestly induced the 49-year-old victim to transfer the sum on the pretext of generating profit through a floor coating business. The alleged offence took place between 1 January and 10 July 2018 at Jalan Air Molek 1 in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa.

He was charged under Section 420 of the Penal Code, which carries a minimum prison sentence of one year and up to 10 years, in addition to whipping and a possible fine upon conviction.

Judge Norma Ismail granted bail of RM15,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to surrender his passport to the court. Ridzuan was also instructed to report to a nearby police station once a month. The court fixed 5 January for case mention and submission of documents.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Nurainizatul Farhana Zainal appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Najib Zakaria.
