Chaos erupts at Sam’s Club self-serve drink bars in China, as members push the limits of the “unlimited refill” perk. On September 7, a Wuhan woman brought a large plastic bucket to fill at the drink bar, ignoring staff attempts to stop her. The next day, a young woman repeated the stunt at another store, telling onlookers, “Everything here is expensive. I’m not giving them my money!”
The “unlimited drink” benefit, designed for members who purchase specific drinks, allows unlimited refills on the same day using a special cup label or receipt. However, these incidents have turned it into a contest of who can exploit the system.
Store staff said such behavior has occurred before and they usually step in to protect other members’ rights and prevent delays. Some members worry Sam’s Club may revoke the unlimited refill perk due to repeated abuses. Staff confirmed no cancellation notice has been issued yet but said they plan to regulate and improve the service.
