A case involving a doctor accused of molesting female patients was heard in the George Town Magistrate’s Court today but has been postponed to February 12 due to incomplete documentation.
The accused, a 44-year-old Chinese doctor identified as Nguyen Hong Da (name transliterated), appeared at the court this morning wearing a face mask to avoid public identification.
The case was mentioned before the Second Magistrate’s Court. The accused is facing three charges, and the matter was previously heard on December 17 last year before being adjourned to January 27. However, the defence requested another postponement as case documents were still being processed, which the magistrate allowed.
The doctor was earlier charged on October 17 last year under four charges at the George Town Magistrate’s Court. He pleaded not guilty to all charges and was granted bail of RM17,500.
In the First Magistrate’s Court, the accused faces a charge of insulting the modesty of a woman under Section 509 of the Penal Code. He is alleged to have instructed a foreign woman to strip naked and run on the spot at the forensic laboratory of Penang General Hospital at about 9.30pm on February 26.
Meanwhile, in the Second Magistrate’s Court, the accused is charged with three offences. The first and third charges allege that on February 20 at around 9.15pm and 9.30pm, he instructed another foreign woman to remove her clothes, stand naked, and run on the spot at the same location, allegedly insulting her modesty under Section 509 of the Penal Code.
The second charge states that at about 9.25pm on the same date and location, the accused allegedly used criminal force to touch the woman’s chest, an offence under Section 354 of the Penal Code for outraging modesty.
