Clerk Fined RM2,000 for Provoking Man with Hockey Stick During Road Rage

Date:

A 44-year-old clerk was fined RM2,000, with a default sentence of six months’ imprisonment, by the Magistrate’s Court today for provoking a man with a hockey stick during a road rage incident.

Mohd Zakhri Ahmad pleaded guilty before Magistrate Nurul Rasyidah Mohd Akit to intentionally provoking 27-year-old Muhammad Furqan Mohd Fuad along Jalan Sungai Derhaka on the afternoon of Dec 25.

The charge was brought under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with the intent to provoke a breach of the peace, an offence punishable by up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

Probationary Inspector Norfirdaus Azimi Roslan, representing the prosecution, requested a sentence that would serve as a deterrent. In mitigation, Zakhri’s lawyer highlighted his client’s RM2,500 monthly salary, supporting a wife and six children, and stressed his remorse and early guilty plea, which had saved court time.

The magistrate then imposed a RM2,000 fine. The incident came to public attention after a video of the dispute between the two drivers went viral.
