Date:

A suspected gas-related incident at the Perak Road Government Clinic in Jelutong caused alarm this morning after a staff member experienced breathing difficulties and lost consciousness.

The woman, a 43-year-old laboratory technician, was later taken to Penang General Hospital for further treatment.

The Fire and Rescue Department said it received a call at 9.13am regarding a possible abnormal gas situation at the clinic. Firefighters were immediately dispatched to the scene to assess the situation.

Upon arrival, rescue personnel conducted checks within the premises and found no evidence of a gas leak. The situation was subsequently brought under control.

Authorities confirmed that the victim had already been transported to the hospital before firefighters arrived.

Further inspections and air monitoring were carried out throughout the clinic, with detection equipment showing no traces of gas leakage or chemical spillage. Oxygen levels in the affected area were recorded at 21 per cent, which is within the normal and safe range.

As a precaution, firefighters opened windows in the area to improve ventilation and stabilise indoor air quality.

After confirming that conditions were safe and posed no further risk, the incident commander declared the situation under control at 9.47am. Firefighters concluded their operation at 11.06am.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the suspected gas-related incident.
