A Malaysian commando suffered broken ribs and a suspected neck fracture after a parachute landing went wrong during a demonstration on Sunday.
The incident, which involved a corporal from the Special Warfare Training Centre, occurred during a free-fall parachuting display held in conjunction with the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Special Forces Regiment (GGK). A seven-second video of the mishap has since gone viral on social media.
An eyewitness, identified only as Shahmi, said the commando appeared to encounter difficulties while still in the air.
“I saw the personnel struggling and spinning in mid-air before landing at high speed and crashing,” he said.
The injured commando, who serves as an assistant instructor at the Special Warfare Training Centre based at Terendak Camp in Sungai Udang, was immediately assisted by fellow soldiers at the scene before being transported in a military ambulance.
He is currently receiving treatment at Melaka Hospital.
