A police lance corporal was injured after being attacked by a man armed with a machete during a drug raid in Tanjung Kling, Melaka, last Thursday.
Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said the incident occurred during an operation conducted by the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (JSJN) from the Melaka contingent police headquarters.
He said the suspect, a 31-year-old man, suddenly turned aggressive during the raid, issuing threats and attacking officers with a machete before attempting to flee the scene.
“The suspect became violent during the raid in Tanjung Kling and attacked officers with a machete before trying to escape. He was later arrested shortly after,” he said.
The injured officer suffered a minor injury, including swelling to the left thumb following the attack.
Christopher said the suspect is expected to be charged with six offences, including Sections 324, 506 and 186 of the Penal Code for causing injury, criminal intimidation and obstructing a public servant in the discharge of duty.
He will also face more serious charges under Section 307 of the Penal Code for attempted murder, as well as Section 6(1) of the Corrosive, Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958 for possession of a dangerous weapon in a public place.
