A 33-year-old father was charged in the Sessions Court on Thursday with the rape of his 14-year-old daughter. The accused, who works as a laborer, pleaded not guilty when the charge was read before Judge Zulkifli Abllah.
According to the charge, the father allegedly raped the victim at a house in Kuala Krai at 11 p.m. on April 13. He is charged under Section 376(3) of the Penal Code, which prescribes a minimum sentence of eight years and up to 30 years imprisonment, along with at least 10 lashes upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad handled the prosecution, while the accused appeared unrepresented by a lawyer. Bail was not offered due to the seriousness of the case involving a parent and child relationship.
The accused was given the opportunity to appeal for bail but remained silent while looking towards two female family members who were crying in the public gallery. The court subsequently denied bail.
The case will be mentioned again on a later date for further proceedings.
