A 20-year-old woman faced a terrifying ordeal when a naked man broke into her apartment in Taman Sri Sentosa and robbed her at knifepoint last Friday afternoon (Nov 7).
Brickfields police chief Assistant Commissioner Hoo Chang Hook said the victim was hanging her clothes at around 3pm when she heard her grille door creak open. Initially thinking it was her housemate, she was shocked to find a completely naked intruder who had slipped in through the unlocked yard.
The suspect tackled the woman as she tried to escape, resulting in a struggle during which she sustained injuries to her left thigh, hand, and lips. The assailant threatened to kill her and demanded money. When the woman attempted to use her phone to call for help, the suspect snatched it from her before fleeing the scene after she refused to provide her passcode.
Police launched a search and apprehended the suspect the following day at 7.12pm (Nov 8). Authorities recovered three mobile phones, the victim’s backpack, a laptop, clothing, and slippers.
Investigations revealed that the suspect had a long criminal history, including 12 previous offenses and seven drug-related cases. A urine test confirmed he was positive for ganja.
The suspect admitted to his involvement in multiple offenses under Sections 394 and 380 of the Penal Code, which cover voluntarily causing hurt during robbery and theft, respectively. He claimed the robbery was committed to fund his daily expenses.
The man has been remanded for five days, until Nov 13, to assist in further investigations.
