The Royal Malay Regiment’s 11th Battalion (11 RAMD) successfully intercepted a smuggling attempt at the Serikin border in Bau on Monday, confiscating cigarettes and onions valued at approximately RM679,500.
The Eastern Field Command headquarters reported that during Ops Keris Parang, 11 RAMD personnel detected suspicious lorries using an unmarked route from Indonesia toward a nearby village.
“All vehicles were intercepted successfully, and four men believed to be involved in the smuggling were apprehended without any security threats,” the statement said, noting that three of the suspects were Indonesian nationals.
Inspection of the vehicles led to the seizure of 21,600 cartons of cigarettes, 900 sacks of onions, and four lorries used in the operation. The total estimated value of the confiscated goods and vehicles was RM832,500 — RM648,000 for the cigarettes, RM31,500 for the onions, and RM153,000 for the lorries.
The four suspects, along with all seized items, were handed over to the Bau District Police Headquarters for further investigation.
“This operation demonstrates the Malaysian Army’s ongoing commitment to preventing smuggling along the nation’s borders,” the statement added.
