Johor-born musician Namewee has released a new song titled Very Shuai (“Very Handsome”) while being detained by police in connection with the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.
According to China Press, the track — an old demo recorded in 2014 — was released on Spotify yesterday, the same day Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, surrendered himself to police.
Local reports said the rapper had already announced the song’s release before he was implicated in the ongoing murder investigation.
Wee was remanded for six days until Nov 10 to assist police with investigations into the death of Hsieh, popularly known online as Iris Hsieh or the “Nurse Goddess.”
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus said the case involving a woman found dead in a city hotel on Oct 22 has been reclassified from sudden death to murder.
He added that the cause of death remains under investigation, pending post-mortem and toxicology results.
Namewee was earlier arrested on Oct 22 in a Kuala Lumpur hotel room and remanded for two days before being charged on Oct 24 with two drug-related offences.
The 40-year-old pleaded not guilty and was released on bail. His next court mention for the drug charges is scheduled for Dec 18.
On social media, the rapper denied using or possessing drugs and said he would fully cooperate with police.
