A German palliative nurse has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of murdering 10 patients and attempting to kill 27 others using lethal injections.
The Aachen court announced the verdict on Wednesday, ruling that the crimes were of “particular severity,” effectively barring the possibility of parole after the minimum 15-year term.
Prosecutors revealed that the nurse administered painkillers and sedatives to mostly elderly patients to reduce his workload during night shifts. The killings took place between December 2023 and May 2024 at a clinic near Aachen, western Germany.
The verdict can still be appealed, and investigators are now examining additional suspicious deaths linked to the nurse’s previous employment.
The case recalls one of Germany’s darkest medical crime sprees — when another nurse was sentenced to life in 2019 for the murder of 85 patients.
