Mohamad Salrizal Rohani, 31, who was killed in accident yesterday, was eagerly awaiting the birth of his third child, his wife said.
He died of head injuries after he crashed his pickup into a lorry laden with cement blocks that had stopped to make a right turn, along KM41 of Jalan Batu Pahat–Mersing.
His wife, Naziha Mohd Salleh, also 31, who is six months pregnant, said her husband had left home that morning as usual without showing any unusual signs.
“Moments later, I received a call saying he had been in an accident. I didn’t know how bad it was until I was told he was gone,” she said.
The couple has two daughters, aged two and four.
Naziha said that her husband’s visit to her mother’s house in Taman Mengkibol here, the night before the crash was their last moment together.
“I’ve lost my pillar of strength. My children are still too young to understand what has happened,” she said.
Kluang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said investigations revealed that the lorry had stopped to turn right when the victim’s vehicle, coming from the same direction, crashed into its rear.
“The driver of the four-wheel drive suffered severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 31-year-old lorry driver escaped unhurt,” he said.
