The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) in Penang has seized goods worth RM3.06 million across 804 cases since January, involving offences such as inaccurate weighing instruments and unclear price displays.
KPDN Penang director S. Jegan said the ministry inspected 67,564 premises this year, issuing fines totaling RM461,800. The ministry also received 2,288 public complaints, including 1,016 on pricing, 191 on controlled goods, and 1,081 on other issues.
Today, Jegan launched the pilot Pasar Patuh (3P) programme at Chowrasta Market, aimed at strengthening compliance among market traders. The initiative emphasizes clear price labelling, accurate weighing instruments, and a clean, organized trading environment.
“The programme promotes fair competition, protects consumer rights, and fosters public confidence in ethical trade practices,” Jegan said.
The 3P programme currently involves 60 traders across wet, semi-dry, dry, and non-halal zones, and will be expanded to other markets in stages. Implementation involves collaboration between government agencies, industry, and consumers, including local authorities, the Health Ministry, Fama, the Companies Commission of Malaysia, and certified weighing instrument verifiers.
The public is encouraged to report misconduct or non-compliance through official channels under the Kita Gempur campaign.
