The Sarawak government is stepping up efforts to expand road networks across the state, aiming to bring development to even the most remote areas.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said that under the leadership of Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, infrastructure projects are being rolled out to improve accessibility for communities previously reachable only by river or long journeys.
“Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia, and many communities have faced difficulties travelling to urban centres due to the lack of road links. The government now has comprehensive plans to ensure road access reaches all areas,” he said, according to the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).
Dr Abdul Rahman made the remarks at the closing ceremony of the Zone 4 Rangawan Community Engagement Day, held at SK Sungai Bulu Senangeh in Sadong Jaya yesterday.
One of the largest projects is a 142km road in Baram, cutting through forests and swamp areas. Construction begins this year and is expected to be completed within four years. Once finished, the road is anticipated to boost economic growth, improve access to social services, and create opportunities for community development.
Highlighting the importance of unity in development, Dr Abdul Rahman said, “The people of Sarawak are known for their unity. While we differ in ethnicity and culture, these differences are our strength and enable the state’s development agenda to progress smoothly.”
Present at the event were Batang Sadong MP Rodiyah Sapiee, Simunjan assemblyman Awla Dris, and Ukas director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan.
