Dog Chase Turns Deadly — Motorcyclist Killed, Wife & Toddler Critically Injured

Date:

A motorcyclist was killed while his wife and infant son were critically injured after the motorcycle they were riding reportedly lost control when chased by a dog in an accident along Jalan Empangan, Taman Murni Jaya, Machap, Simpang Renggam, on Saturday night.

In the incident at about 7.30pm, the victim was identified as 28-year-old Amirul Azim Hamdan, who died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh said that at the time of the incident, the victim was riding a Benelli TNT300 motorcycle with his 28-year-old wife and their one-year-and-eight-month-old baby. They were travelling from Tasik Machap towards the residential area of Taman Murni.

“Initial investigations found that the motorcyclist is believed to have lost control after being chased by a dog, causing the motorcycle to veer into the opposite lane and collide with the rear of a Scania lorry that was parked on the right road shoulder,” he said in a statement on Sunday.

As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His wife and baby also suffered head injuries and were rushed by ambulance to Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom in Kluang.

Bahrin added that both victims are currently receiving treatment in the Red Zone of the hospital’s Emergency Department.

Meanwhile, the lorry driver, a 42-year-old local man, tested negative for drugs following a urine screening. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
