Driver Detained for Altering Trade Plate on Unregistered Company Vehicle in KL

Date:

A man faced legal trouble after modifying the Trade Plate on a company car that had yet to be officially registered, authorities confirmed yesterday.

Kuala Lumpur Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Hamidi Adam said the driver was apprehended during a special operation, Op Khas Luxury, on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2).

Investigations revealed that the vehicle belonged to an unregistered company. “The number used was a Trade Plate, which cannot be recorded by the Automated Enforcement System (AWAS),” he explained.

The driver reportedly altered the original blue Trade Plate to resemble a standard black registration plate, citing concerns that the original plate could scratch the car.

Following the discovery, the vehicle was impounded, and investigations are ongoing under the Road Transport Act 1987.

“JPJ Kuala Lumpur remains vigilant, continuously monitoring complaints to ensure all vehicles comply with road regulations and legal requirements,” Hamidi added.
