A 75-year-old man was killed after losing control of his SUV, crashing into a motorcycle and ploughing into an automated laundromat in Thailand’s Kanchanaburi province.
The incident occurred on Saeng Chuto Road opposite Kanchanaburi Vocational College, where rescue workers discovered the elderly driver trapped inside the locked vehicle after it smashed into the shop’s electrical control panel.
Emergency responders spent several minutes forcing open the vehicle doors before pulling the man from the driver’s seat. He suffered a severe head injury and a fractured neck, and was found without a pulse.
Rescuers immediately performed CPR for about 10 minutes, but the victim, identified only as Mr Ban, 75, was pronounced dead at the scene.
CCTV footage showed the SUV speeding out from a hotel before sideswiping a motorcycle travelling along the road. Both vehicles reportedly ended up on the road divider before the SUV veered onto the pavement, slammed into an electrical control box and crashed into the laundromat.
Fortunately, no workers inside the laundromat were injured during the crash, while the female motorcyclist suffered only minor injuries.
Family members said the victim had earlier visited his wife, who works at a hotel in central Kanchanaburi, before driving off to run errands. They said they were unsure what caused the accident.
Police are investigating whether the victim may have accidentally accelerated while exiting the hotel or suffered a sudden medical emergency that caused him to lose control of the vehicle.
Authorities said the body would be sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death before further action is taken.
