A 32-year-old driver has surrendered to police following the circulation of a viral video showing a Range Rover Velar being driven dangerously with a shredded rear tyre along the Lebuhraya Sungai Besi.
Kuala Lumpur Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Zamzuri Mohd Isa said the driver presented himself at the KL Traffic Police Station on Jalan Tun H.S. Lee at approximately 10.30am today.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred around 8am on November 22. The vehicle was seen driving with its right rear tyre completely torn while moving over a road divider, before eventually stopping at the Jalan Kuchai Maju traffic light junction.
A one-minute video recorded by another motorist was later uploaded to social media, drawing widespread concern over the dangerous behaviour.
The driver told police he had hit a pothole and chose to continue driving home as it was nearby.
“An arrest will be made. The individual is currently undergoing a urine test, and investigations are ongoing,” Mohd Zamzuri said.
The case is being investigated under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act for reckless driving.
Police have urged witnesses or anyone with further information to contact their nearest police station or the Tun H.S. Lee Traffic Police Station at 03-2071 9999.
