A bizarre traffic violation in Belgium has left police stunned after a man allowed his 12-year-old son to drive the family car home because he was too drunk to get behind the wheel himself.
According to a report by Oddity Central, the incident took place on the night of Jan. 2, when police were conducting a roadside checkpoint.
Officers noticed a car approaching the checkpoint at an unusually slow speed before stopping several dozen metres away, raising suspicion.
When police approached the vehicle, they were shocked to find a young boy in the driver’s seat. The child’s father was seated in the front passenger seat and openly admitted to officers that he had asked his son to drive because he had consumed too much alcohol.
The situation became even more alarming when police discovered that the boy’s mother and two younger siblings were seated in the back of the car.
Investigations revealed that the mother held a valid driving licence but had nevertheless allowed her underage son to take the wheel.
The parents now face possible criminal charges, and the case has been referred to social services for further investigation.
