The Melaka state government has initiated a formal investigation into a social media post featuring two men in matching Aidilfitri outfits, which has been widely condemned for allegedly promoting LGBT culture. The controversial images, originally shared on the Threads platform, depict the pair in intimate poses, including back-hugging and holding hands in a manner traditionally associated with married couples.
The post was accompanied by a caption that translated to “Aidilfitri soulmate has arrived, Alhamdulillah,” sparking immediate backlash from netizens. Many social media users criticised the act, claiming it tarnished the sanctity of the Muslim holy month and the subsequent Aidilfitri celebrations. The outcry eventually drew the attention of state religious authorities, leading to the deletion of the original post.
Datuk Rahmad Mariman, the Melaka State Education, Higher Education, and Religious Affairs Committee Chairman, confirmed that preliminary information suggests the incident took place in Kampung Batu Gajah, Merlimau. He stated that the authorities are currently in the process of verifying the authenticity of the claims and the exact location of the photoshoot. A detailed investigation report is expected to be tabled before any further disciplinary or legal actions are taken.
The chairman emphasised that the probe will be comprehensive, specifically looking into whether the individuals involved have breached any existing state religious or shariah laws. He urged the public to remain patient while the authorities conduct their work, noting that a fair conclusion can only be reached once all facts are gathered and reviewed.
