Escaped Inmate Rearrested Within an Hour in Kluang

Date:

Police swiftly rearrested an inmate who escaped from custody, detaining him less than an hour after he was reported missing yesterday.

Kluang district police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the Prison Department’s Resident Reintegration Centre in Jalan Mersing lodged a report at 4.25pm after discovering the inmate was missing.

“Upon receiving the information, officers from the Kluang District Police Headquarters and the Kluang Prison Department immediately initiated an operation to track down the suspect,” he said in a statement.

By 5.30pm, a Prison Department team successfully apprehended the 26-year-old local man near a chicken coop in Kampung Sri Timur, Kluang.

The case is being investigated under Section 233 and Section 224 of the Penal Code, which carry penalties ranging from fines to imprisonment of up to two years.

Earlier, a viral post on the Facebook page ‘This is Johor’ showed a man believed to be the escaped inmate being monitored by three individuals in what appeared to be an oil palm plantation.
