Ex-Prince Andrew Remains Silent on US Lawmakers’ Request Over Epstein Ties

Date:

Britain’s disgraced former prince, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, has failed to respond to a request from US lawmakers seeking to question him about his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Sixteen Democratic members of the US House of Representatives oversight committee had signed a letter requesting Andrew participate in a “transcribed interview” as part of their ongoing investigation into Epstein, who died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. The letter asked Andrew to reply by November 20.

Andrew, previously known as Prince Andrew, was stripped of his royal titles by King Charles III over his links to Epstein. As a foreign national, he cannot be compelled by US Congress to testify — making his cooperation unlikely, especially as Democrats currently hold a minority in the House.

Committee members Robert Garcia and Suhas Subramanyan criticised Andrew’s non-response.

“Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s silence in the face of the Oversight Democrats’ demand for testimony speaks volumes,” they said. “The documents we’ve reviewed, along with public records and Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s testimony, raise serious questions he must answer, yet he continues to hide.”

Recently released committee emails and a posthumous memoir by Giuffre have reignited public anger in the UK over Andrew’s association with Epstein. Giuffre, who accused Andrew of sexually abusing her on three occasions when she was trafficked by Epstein, died by suicide in Australia in April.

Andrew has always denied the allegations. In 2022, he reached a multi-million-pound settlement with Giuffre without admitting liability.

Garcia and Subramanyan stated that the committee’s investigation into Epstein’s network will proceed regardless of Andrew’s participation.

“We will hold anyone involved in these crimes accountable, no matter their wealth, status, or political party. We will get justice for the survivors,” they said.
