An express bus carrying 10 passengers is believed to have skidded before overturning at the roadside near Kampung Sepakat Baru, Batu 11, Johor Bahru along the exit ramp of Plaza Tol Skudai on Sunday night.
Operations commander from the Skudai Fire and Rescue Station, Senior Fire Officer I Kamarulzaman Salleh, said the department received an emergency call at about 8.20pm before a fire engine and several personnel were dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters arrived at 8.29pm and found the express bus had veered off the road before overturning at the roadside.
A total of 10 individuals were involved in the accident. Rescue personnel managed to extricate two passengers who were trapped inside the vehicle using specialised equipment.
Another victim who had been trapped was successfully freed by members of the public before firefighters arrived at the location.
The bus driver and two other victims sustained injuries but were not trapped, while four other passengers suffered minor injuries.
All victims received initial treatment from Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS), ambulances from the Ministry of Health Malaysia and St John Ambulance personnel before being taken to hospital for further medical treatment.
The rescue operation was fully concluded at 9.14pm after authorities confirmed the situation was safe.
Meanwhile, Johor Bahru Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Radin Ramlan Radin Taha confirmed the incident when contacted, adding that the express bus had been travelling from Kuala Lumpur to Johor Bahru at the time of the crash.
