A factory supervisor was fined RM3,000 by the Magistrate’s Court today for allegedly recording a man using the toilet in a shopping complex without his consent.
Magistrate Nurasidah A Rahman handed down the sentence to 31-year-old Na Yeow Sing, who pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 509 of the Penal Code. The court also ruled that he would face three months’ imprisonment if the fine was not paid, which the accused settled in full.
According to the charge, the unmarried man was accused of violating the 32-year-old victim’s privacy by filming him with a mobile phone while he was using the toilet.
The incident occurred at 5.15pm on March 11 in the restroom of a shopping complex in Taman Flora Utama. Police reports indicated that the victim noticed the suspect recording him from an elevated position in the toilet. Upon discovering the act, the victim chased and caught the man, later seeking help from the security guards to contact the authorities.
Police arrived at the scene at 6pm and took the suspect into custody. Examination of Na Yeow Sing’s phone revealed a video capturing the victim during the act.
