Police have launched an investigation after a viral video captured a man firing a gun during an attempted robbery in Taman Megah Ria, Seri Alam. The 31-second clip, which surfaced on Facebook on July 19, shows the suspect discharging what appears to be a firearm before fleeing the scene on a motorcycle.
According to Seri Alam police chief Asst Comm Mohd Sohaimi Ishak, the incident took place at around 7:10pm on July 19. “During the incident, the suspect fired a single shot outside the premises before fleeing on a motorcycle. Fortunately, the victim was not injured,” he said in a statement.
Authorities have yet to confirm the ethnicity of the suspect. The case is now being investigated under Section 3 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment, along with whipping, for the use of firearms in robbery cases.
