A contract worker, Raja Daniel Iskandar Raja Teh Suhaimi, tragically died after being buried during excavation and pipe installation work at Kampung Teluk Kepayang, Bota Kiri, yesterday. Witnesses say he called for help twice, but colleagues were unable to rescue him before a second landslide struck just minutes later.
A co-worker, who requested anonymity, shared that he and two others were buried up to their chests but managed to free themselves, leaving them traumatized by the incident. He recalled that Raja Daniel Iskandar, 25, from Terengganu, had been working with the piping company since 2019 and had recently expressed his intention to move to Perak a few days prior.
“The pipe installation was in its final phase, and we were expecting to return to Terengganu once it was completed,” the co-worker said.
Raja Daniel Iskandar’s uncle, Wan Fauzi Wan Ahmad, 60, confirmed that the deceased will be laid to rest at the Kampung Makam Lama Islamic Cemetery in Kuala Terengganu. The victim leaves behind a wife and twin infants, approximately two months old.
The Perak Fire and Rescue Department reported that the accident occurred around 5 p.m. and involved four workers. Three, aged between 28 and 38, were buried up to their chests and rescued by 6:30 p.m. However, Raja Daniel Iskandar was completely buried and pronounced dead at the scene after being recovered at 7:59 p.m.
