A fire broke out yesterday at an illegal landfill in the M Residence 2 area of Rawang, but the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS) confirmed that no wastewater from the site has entered the drainage system or the nearby Sungai Kundang river.
In a statement released yesterday, LUAS said they received the incident report in the evening and promptly dispatched officers to the scene to assess the situation and evaluate potential risks and impacts to nearby water sources.
Sungai Kundang flows into Sungai Sembah, which eventually connects to Sungai Selangor — the source for several key water treatment plants in Selangor, including SSP1, SSP2, and SSP3.

Firefighters from the Batu Arang Fire and Rescue Department were observed carrying out extinguishing efforts. The river is approximately 1.5 kilometers away from the fire site, and firefighting work is still ongoing.
LUAS added that they have been stationed on-site, closely monitoring the situation, and are prepared to take immediate mitigation actions to prevent any water contamination.
As of 8:00 PM last night, checks confirmed that Sungai Kundang remains unaffected, with water quality in good and controlled condition.
Separately, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Mukhlis disclosed that their operations center received a distress call at 11:27 AM on Sunday, and firefighting efforts have continued for 20 hours daily.
He said the fire has affected approximately four acres of the illegal landfill, and hotspots remain in several areas. Excavators are also being used to aid in extinguishing the flames.
