A fire performance at the “2026 Taoyuan Faith Life Festival – Divine Spring Procession” in Taoyuan took an unexpected turn when a female dancer briefly caught fire after slipping during a stage act at the Bade Arts Square on April 4.
The incident occurred during a fire dance segment when the performer, dressed in a short skirt and shorts, entered the stage holding a torch and oil container. While marking a circular pattern on the ground, she reportedly slipped on a wet surface before falling, causing the torch to ignite spilled fuel and set her lower body alight.
Members of the audience were left shocked as the flames quickly spread following the fall. Despite the frightening moment, the dancer remained composed, quickly moving the fire source away from the main stage area and exiting to safety while attempting to extinguish the flames.
The performance was staged by the group Coming True Fire Group (即將成真火舞團), which later issued a statement explaining that the accident was believed to have been caused by rain-slicked ground conditions, which made the stage surface slippery during the outdoor event.
The troupe said the performer immediately followed safety training procedures by retreating backstage, where she received cooling treatment and medical attention. Doctors later assessed her condition as stable, and she was allowed to return home the same day without the need for hospitalisation.
They added that the incident would be taken seriously as part of future safety reviews, with plans to strengthen weather and ground condition assessments for outdoor performances. The group also expressed gratitude to organisers and the public for their concern and support following the incident.
