A late-night fire destroyed two massage centre units located on the third floor of a shophouse along Jalan Abang Galau on Thursday.
According to the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba), a distress call was received at 11.07pm. Firefighters from the Bintulu and Kidurong stations were immediately deployed to the scene.
The blaze engulfed both units, each measuring about 40 by 40 square feet, and they were reported to be completely destroyed.
Bomba said the Bintulu team used a 200-foot hose line with two nozzles to suppress the fire from the front and right sections of the building. Simultaneously, the Kidurong team tackled the flames from the exterior and rear using a separate 200-foot hose line with two nozzles.
Once the flames were contained, firefighters conducted overhaul operations to eliminate any remaining sources of ignition. The operation ended at 1.38am after the area was confirmed safe.
The cause of the fire and the estimated losses are still being investigated. Police and personnel from Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) were also at the scene.
