Fire Rescue Team Saves Pickup Truck Occupants Who Were Trapped in Miri Floodwaters

Date:

Four men were rescued this morning after their pickup truck became trapped in floodwaters along Jalan Penerangan, Sepupok Niah, in the Miri Division.

According to a spokesperson from the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) operations centre, the emergency call was received at 9.09am. A five-member team from the Batu Niah Fire and Rescue Station was immediately deployed to the scene.

“Upon arrival, we found four men stranded inside a pickup truck surrounded by floodwaters. Firefighters used a boat to bring all four to safety,” the spokesperson said.

Earlier, Bomba responded to another flood emergency at 12.30am, assisting in the relocation of 375 residents from 84 families in two longhouses — Rumah Panjang Aron Skim and Rumah Panjang Lumpoh — after both were inundated.

Six personnel from the Batu Niah station arrived on-site at 12.42am, where they evacuated residents to the homes of nearby relatives.

No temporary relief centres were opened, but authorities reported rising water levels in the affected areas.

Of those moved, 119 residents from 27 families were from Rumah Panjang Lumpoh, while 256 residents from 57 families were from Rumah Panjang Aron. The evacuation operation concluded at 6.21am.
