Shots Fired As Smugglers Ram Police Cars And Flee Against Traffic

Date:

Members of the General Operations Force (PGA) were forced to fire five shots at the rear tires of a vehicle suspected of transporting undocumented migrants (PATI) during an incident near the Telok Panglima Garang Toll Plaza on Friday.

Kuala Langat District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi, said the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when the Central Brigade PGA’s Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (ATIPSOM) Task Force, along with personnel from the Pulau Carey PGA post, were conducting an operation in the area.

“The operation team initially stopped two vehicles — a Toyota Fortuner SUV and a four-wheel-drive vehicle — both loaded with Bangladeshi nationals suspected to be illegal immigrants.

“However, the driver of the 4WD acted aggressively by reversing at high speed and ramming into a police vehicle, also hitting a Perodua Myvi belonging to one of the officers,” he said in a statement.

At the same time, the driver of the Toyota Fortuner also rammed into the police vehicle, prompting two officers to fire five shots at its rear tires to prevent the suspects from escaping.

“After the shots were fired, the 4WD sped off against the traffic flow, while the Toyota Fortuner drove through the toll and continued towards the SKVE Highway.

“During the pursuit, the police later found the Toyota Fortuner abandoned by the roadside with its doors open and no one inside,” he said.

Further inspection revealed no contraband items, and no injuries were reported in the incident.

Akmalrizal added that efforts to track down all suspects and undocumented migrants involved are ongoing. The case is being investigated under Section 186 and Section 307 of the Penal Code.

He also urged the public not to speculate on the incident and to assist by providing any relevant information to the Kuala Langat District Police Operations Room at 03-3187 2222.
